Giygas is in a transitional stage where he is going from a mortal being to a god.

His sci power is cascading in the devil machine but there is something holding his maturation back. Ness and his party are the catalyst Giygas needs to move on, like sperm to an egg rather than abortion tools. The mix of positive and negative powers, good and evil, make this incomplete being complete, allowing him to transend and thus surrendering his manifest existence on this plane.

Giygas represents the potential for good, evil, and conquest of the future that all new life brings, and Ness represents the struggle to make a place for life. I believe Giygas was not destroyed, but instead purified, allowing his all-powerful influences to become quiet and benign rather than loud and tyrannous. Giygas is in a way destroyed by way of transformation rather than violence, hence the prayers used to defeat him.

A power like Giygas does not just go away, it must transform. The story is about life before birth, that our struggles often stem from bygones, and the transition from nothingness to release from nothingness that new life represents.

While the statement that Giygas is you and I seems to contradict this, it does not after analysis of what I mean. I said it in recognition of what Giygas might represent beyond what he is as a being with a history, but as what he represented to me in that specific moment in time, just as our own meanings shift depending on the situation we might be in at one time or another.
